Free Safeguarding E-Learning Courses
Overview
Bracknell Forest Safeguarding Board provides free safeguarding e-learning for partner organisations across Bracknell Forest, including voluntary, community and faith-based organisations.
The courses are designed to help staff and volunteers build confidence, strengthen safeguarding knowledge and understand how to recognise and respond to concerns in their role. E-learning can be completed flexibly, at your own pace, and can be used as part of induction, refresher training or wider professional development.
The training is hosted by Virtual College and includes a wide range of safeguarding courses for people working with children, adults, families and communities.
Why complete safeguarding e-learning?
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. The e-learning offer is intended to support organisations to make sure staff and volunteers have access to clear, practical and up-to-date safeguarding learning.
The courses can help learners to:
- understand their safeguarding responsibilities;
- recognise signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation and harm;
- know how to respond to concerns;
- build confidence in applying safeguarding knowledge in practice;
- keep safeguarding knowledge up to date.
All courses are free to complete for those working with children, families and vulnerable adults in borough, as they are funded by Bracknell Forest Safeguarding Board.
How the courses work
The courses include interactive learning, learner challenges, progress tracking and online assessment. Learners can complete training in stages, save their progress and revisit modules to refresh their knowledge.
Once registered, learners can choose the relevant course or courses. Course selections will be reviewed and, once approved, a welcome email will be sent. Learners should complete their training within 8 weeks.
Face-to-Face and wider learning opportunities
E-learning is an important part of the safeguarding training offer and can support induction, refresher learning and ongoing professional development.
Some safeguarding topics also benefit from discussion, reflection and opportunities to explore how learning applies in practice. Organisations should consider how e-learning sits alongside their own supervision, team discussions, briefings and any relevant face-to-face or live training opportunities.
Voluntary and community organisations can also contact Involve Community Services for information and support about wider training and development opportunities.
Refresher Training
Safeguarding learning should be refreshed regularly to ensure knowledge remains current and reflects changes in legislation, guidance and best practice.
Many organisations will have their own training requirements or expectations set by regulatory bodies. Staff and volunteers should follow their organisation's safeguarding training policy and discuss any training needs with their manager or safeguarding lead.
Refresher e-learning courses are available for:
- Safeguarding Everyone
- Safeguarding Children
- Safeguarding Adults
These courses help learners maintain and update their safeguarding knowledge and confidence.
Courses available
A wide range of courses is available, including courses for:
- all staff and volunteers
- those working with children and young people
- those working with adults at risk
- health and social care staff
- multi-agency and specialist practitioners
- managers, safeguarding leads and leaders
